Abstract

  • April 2002 was marked by 0.24 deflation. From the observation of Consumer Price Index (CPI)in 43 cities, it was reported that deflation was occurred in 31 cities, while 12 cities experiencedinflation. Manado recorded the biggest deflation (minus 1.78 %), and the lowest was intang Siantar (minus 0.03 %). Meanwhile, the highest inflation was in Pontianak andTernate (+ 0.71 %), and the lowest was in Bandar Lampung (+ 0.08 %).
  • Based on the group of expenditures, the deflation was contributed by the decreases in the priceof food (-1.91 %) and clothing (- 0.09 %). The decrease was partially offset by the rises in theprice of prepared food, beverages and tobacco products (+0.23 %). housing (+ 0.43 %). theincreases in the cost of health (+ 0.50 %). education, recreation & sports (+ 0.02 %). andtransportation & communication (+ 0.88 %).
