Jakarta, 15 November 2025. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) is strengthening its preparations for the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) through the 2025 Technical Coordination Meeting and Activity Evaluation held in Jakarta. The meeting served as a national consolidation forum for all BPS offices to align strategies, ensure operational readiness, and coordinate key stages ahead of SE2026 implementation across Indonesia.
In her closing remarks (15/11), the Chief Statistician of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, emphasized that SE2026 is a key moment to gain a comprehensive, updated understanding of Indonesia’s economic landscape. “Complete and accurate data are essential for decision-making. Both the government and business actors rely on these data to design policies and strategies that are well targeted,” Amalia said.
The coordination meeting also served to strengthen preparations throughout 2025 for the nationwide implementation of SE2026 in June–July 2026, including the evaluation of various field trials conducted for the census. Public communication strategies were also discussed to ensure strong support from the public and business community in all regions.
BPS reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality economic data that reflect emerging dynamics—including the growth of the creative economy and green economy—and that can serve as a key reference for national and regional development planning. Through SE2026, BPS aims to deliver a more complete picture of Indonesia’s business structure and evolving economic activities, support GDP rebasing, improve the national business register, and provide a wide range of analytical insights.
To ensure a smooth census implementation, BPS is also strengthening coordination with ministries, local governments, and business associations. This collaboration is expected to expand information outreach, support the mobilization of field officers, and improve public understanding of the importance of census data for the business sector—ultimately contributing to a strong response rate for SE2026.
One of the major innovations in SE2026 is the use of digital technology in data collection. Enumerators will no longer rely solely on paper questionnaires but will use tablets connected securely to the central system. The digital census application includes automatic validation features that reduce input errors and enable real-time data checks. Data sent to the central server can be analyzed immediately to detect anomalies or inconsistencies, accelerating processing and safeguarding data quality. For large-scale enterprises, SE2026 also offers a self-enumeration option, allowing businesses to complete the questionnaire through a dedicated website link sent via email. This gives respondents greater convenience and flexibility, enabling them to complete the form at their own pace without waiting for a field officer.
Another key innovation for SE2026 is the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) on the official SE2026 information webpage through a chatbot. This chatbot will help the public and business respondents easily access complete information about SE2026. In addition, Gen-AI technology will be used within the SE2026 questionnaire to support automated identification of Indonesia’s Standard Industrial Classification (the KBLI). This feature allows for more accurate and precise classification of business activities, resulting in higher-quality and more reliable sectoral data for Indonesia.
