The STIS Statistics Polytechnic held a public lecture entitled “Data Revolution for Official Statistics” on Tuesday, October 21, together with the National School of Statistical Science (ENCE) under the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Brazil.

The event was opened by Vice Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) RI, Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, who emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the STIS Statistics Polytechnic and ENCE. He also highlighted the urgency of modernizing statistics through institutional collaboration and the use of big data in official statistics.

IBGE President, Marcio Pochmann emphasized the importance of developing statistics that are relevant to international standards and technological developments. He also highlighted that the cooperation between STIS Statistics Polytechnic and ENCE must support public policies for the welfare of the community.

The public lecture was delivered by the Director of ENCE, Jorge Abrahão de Castro, who highlighted the excellence of BPS and IBGE as statistical agencies in the world that have special schools of government statistics such as STIS Statistics Polytechnic and ENCE, which are capable of producing quality human resources. He outlined the statistical challenges in Brazil, which are quite relevant to the challenges in Indonesia in general, such as maintaining precision amid misinformation, data protection, budget constraints, human resource regeneration, as well as the demand for real-time data production and technological adaptation. Jorge also emphasized the importance of cross-agency data integration under the coordination of IBGE and hoped that cooperation between STIS Statistics Polytechnic and ENCE could be realized through lecturer exchanges, seminars, and collaborative research to encourage sustainable statistical innovation.
