In early October, Statistics Indonesia (BPS), as one of the working partners of Commission X of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), accompanied a series of recess working visits to several regions in eastern Indonesia, including North Sulawesi Province, Southwest Papua Province, and Highland Papua Province.

North Sulawesi Province

Commission X DPR RI, together with the Principal Inspector of BPS, Dadang Hardiwan, commenced the recess working visit in North Sulawesi by visiting Dendengan Luar Village, one of the “Desa Cinta Statistik” (Beautiful Village) fostered by BPS of Manado City. This visit aimed to observe the utilization of sectoral data at the village level.

Southwest Papua Province

In another location, Commission X of DPR RI gathered public aspirations in collaboration with Governor of Southwest Papua, Elisa Kambu, and his staff at the Lamberth Jitmau Building in Sorong City. Deputy for National Accounts and Statistical Analysis of BPS, Moh. Edy Mahmud, accompanied by Head of BPS Southwest Papua Province, Merry, also attended the visit.

Vice Chairperson of Commission X DPR RI, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, emphasized that statistical data produced by BPS—such as the School Readiness Index and other indicators—should serve as a fundamental reference for development planning in Southwest Papua Province. Commission X DPR RI, along with BPS and other working partners, also visited several schools, including SMP Negeri 5 Sorong and SD Negeri 3 Sorong.

Highland Papua Province

Continuing the visit to Highland Papua, Deputy for Production Statistics of BPS, M. Habibullah, accompanied Commission X DPR RI on a working visit to Wamena. The delegation visited YPPGI Napua Elementary School and the Wamena Education Field.

Chairwoman of Commission X DPR RI, Hetifah Sjaifudian, stated that the visit aimed to gather direct input and aspirations from local communities and governments regarding policy implementation and government programs in Highland Papua. “We understand the challenges faced by the region at present. Hopefully, through this forum, we can voice the concerns of local communities as valuable input and reference for us to improve future policies,” she said.
