Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics (BMKG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the provision, use, and development of data and/or information in the fields of statistics, meteorology, climatology, and geophysics. Chief Statistician of Statistics Indonesia, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, and the Acting Head of Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics, Dwikorita Karnawati, signed the agreement at the BPS office in Jakarta. "This moment will undoubtedly create tremendous collaboration potential between these two institutions because they have rich data that we can utilize together," Amalia said in her speech.

The renewal of this Memorandum of Understanding not only serves to reinforce the collaboration that has been established since 2019, but is also expected to provide a platform for BPS and BMKG to adapt to evolving challenges and the growing complexity of data and information needs. “The challenges of climate change, environmental crises, and rising disaster risks cannot be addressed in isolation. Collaboration and data integration across institutions are essential. In this regard, BMKG and BPS are complementary partners,” added Amalia.

In line with Amalia’s remarks, Dwikorita also emphasized the importance of data integration between the two institutions. “The integration of BMKG’s data with BPS’s statistical data is expected to produce predictive analyses that not only provide early warnings but also project tangible impacts on society. This reflects the power of big data and AI that we aim to realize together,” said Dwikorita.

Through the established partnership, the synergy and collaboration between Statistics Indonesia and Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics are expected to drive evidence-based policy and build the national data resilience.
