Signing of MoU between BPS and UNDESA

Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Acting Chief Statistician of BPS-Statistics Indonesia (BPS), and Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Regional Hub on Big Data and Data Science for the Asia-Pacific region at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States, on February 27.

The signing took place just before the opening of the 55th Annual Session of the UN Statistical Commission, held from February 27 to March 1, 2024, in New York. During this historic moment for the development of big data and data science in the homeland and the Asia-Pacific region, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN, along with Stefan Schweinfest, Director of UNDESA; Rachael Beaven, Director of the Statistical Division of UNESCAP; and members of the BPS delegation, namely Imam Machdi, Deputy of Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS, and Windhiarso Ponco Adi Putranto, Director of Price Statistics at BPS, were present to witness the signing of the MoU.

Earlier, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, had signed the MoU in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 21, 2024. In her statement, Amalia mentioned that the Regional Hub would strengthen Indonesia's increasingly important role as a beacon of knowledge and catalyst for the development of big data and data science, producing official statistics to drive the future development transformation in the Asia-Pacific region.
