Palembang - "The eagle eats ducks, one meal on the Sembilang River. Handsome gentlemen, beautiful mothers, welcome to the land of Palembang, "said the pantun presented by the Head of the South Sumatra Province BPS, Endang Tri Wahyuningsih, welcoming the participants of the Regional Consultation Gross Regional Domestic Product of Sumatra's Social Economic Indicators (PDRB) , (4/7).

The event, which took place at The Zuri Hotel, Palembang, took the theme "Optimizing New Growth Sources as a Substitution for Decreasing Natural Resources." This activity was a collaboration between BPS, Bappeda, and Bank Indonesia.

Sumatra's economic growth grew positively. Its contribution to the national reached 21 percent, ranking second after Java. The agricultural sector and oil, gas and geothermal mining are the biggest contributors.

In his remarks, Head of BPS, Kecuk Suhariyanto said, "Although the contribution of oil, gas and geothermal mining in Sumatra is large, its growth has slowed over time. Demand continues to increase, but prices fluctuate and even tend to decline. It should be remembered that mining is a non-renewable resource, so it needs to be considered for sustainability. Do not let when mining prices fall, Sumatra's economic growth falls. This has been experienced by East Kalimantan with its coal. "

"In addition to mining, other extraordinary potentials are annual and annual plantations, contributing 56.5 percent. One of the biggest is oil palm and rubber. Dependence on oil palm and rubber will not be profitable if exports are still commodity-based. In the future, economic development in Sumatra it is no longer possible to rely on non-renewable resources, product diversification must be sought and follow the President's vision to make it downstream, so that exports are no longer commodity-based, "Kecuk continued.

On the same occasion, the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru said, "Admittedly, to achieve optimal development results, development planning must be based on accurate statistical data. The Government has issued Presidential Regulation No.39 of 2019 concerning Indonesia Data One. I hope that with the PDRB-ISE Regional Consultation I can realize my hope, namely South Sumatra Towards One Data, "he said in his remarks which was closed with the Re-Launching of the Sumatra Current Indicator Android Application.

The event was followed by a seminar filled by the Deputy of Balance Sheet and BPS Statistical Analysis, Sri Soelistyowati; Expert Staff in the Field of Equity and Regional Bappenas, Oktorialdi; Head of the Sumatra Regional Bank Indonesia Representative Office, Wiwiek Sisto Widayat; and CEO of TaniFund, Pamitra Wineka.
