The FMS National Symposium Discusses Poverty

November 8, 2018 | Other Activities

Jakarta - About 100 participants attended the national symposium organized by the Statistical Society Forum (FMS) at Sari Pacific Hotel, (31/10).
The symposium with the theme "Measuring Poverty in Indonesia: Methodology and Implications" was opened by the Deputy Chair of the FMS, Leonard V.H Tampubolon. "One indication of the cause of the decline in the poverty rate to reach 9.82 percent is due to a surge in social assistance funds, low inflation rates, and controlled food prices," said Leonard, who also serves as Deputy for Economic Affairs at the National Development Planning Agency.

In his speech, the Head of BPS, Kecuk Suhariyanto expressed his gratitude to the FMS for providing input to BPS so that the quality of BPS data in the future would be better. "In addition to FMS, IMF international institutions routinely check BPS data so that the quality of data is maintained, also to maintain BPS independence. IMF evaluation results for data on economic growth released by BPS are declared accurate by the IMF," said Kecuk.

The symposium presented speakers from Margo Yuwono (Deputy of BPS Social Statistics), Pungki Sumadi (Deputy of Population and Employment of Bappenas), Sudarno Sumarto (Senior Research Fellow of the SMERU Research Institute), and Arief Anshory Yusuf (Unpad Professor). The discussion program was moderated by Bustanul Arifin who served as Chair of the FMS.
