BPS-World Bank Develops Natural Resources Balance Sheet

Jakarta - BPS together with the World Bank held a discussion regarding the preparation of the Natural Capital Accounting Roadmap (NCA) at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel today (3/9). This roadmap is part of the Partnership Wealth Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services for Indonesia (I-WAVES) program. This discussion discusses the progress of the preparation of the Natural Resources Balance and its development roadmap in the future.

"Economic activities calculated through GDP need to take into account the role of the environment. This is to maintain the sustainability of natural resources for future generations. The involvement of discussion participants such as Bappenas, Ministry of Environment, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and other Ministries / Institutions related to NCA data provision is very expected, "said BPS Director of Production Balance, Setianto when opening the Focus Group Discussion.

Representatives of the ministries / agencies that were present were asked to formulate what are the current priorities related to natural resources. This information will help in developing effective NCA implementations. Besides Setianto, the speakers were representatives from World Bank, Juan-Pablo Castañeda and Country Coordinator of the I-WAVES Program, Farhan Helmy.
