  1. Telecommunication
    Telecommunication are transmitting and receiving of information in the form of signals, written, pictures, voices, and sound messages by the media of wire, optic, radio system and other electromagnetic system.

  2. Production of telegrams
    Production of telegrams are amount of messages in term of words that are sent from area of origin to area of destination.

  3. Production of telex
    Production of telex are amount of messages in term of pulse that are sent from area of origin to area of destination.

  4. Connected Telex
    Connected Telex are number of telex machine that are connected and functional to send messages from area of origin to area of destination.

  5. Central telephone capacity
    is enable capacity of telephone lines which are already in the market and ready to be marketed.

  6. Connected telephone lines
    are number of connected telephone lines (internal telephones and lines in service subscriber line and public pay phone) and ready to used.

  7. Subscriber Lines
    is individual, firm, and government institution which used network communication line and telecommunication services based on the contract.

  8. Services Duties
    are telephone lines which are used internally at PT (Persero) Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk. for duties purposes.

  9. Number of connected telephone lines (line in service)
    are number of lines in service of telephone subscribers and public pay phones wartels.

  10. Production of Pulse of subscribers
    are number of pulse used by communicating through telephone lines. Pulse is divided between local pulse and long distance pulse. Production of local pulse is number of pulse generated from telephone usage within the area that have the same area code. Production of long distance pulse are number of pulse generated from telephone usage between different areas that have different area codes.

  11. Public Pay Phone
    are individuals, business, and government institutions which used network communication line and telecommunication services, which not based on the contract. Public pay phone consist of coin pay phones, prepaid card phones and wartels.

  12. Production of Public Phone
    are number of pulse generated by telephone communication using coin pay phones, prepaid card phones, and wartels.

  13. Number of telephone lines at wartel
    are number of telephone lines which can be used for communication at Wartel. Wartel is privately public telecommunication counters licensed by PT. Telkom
  14. Telephone
    is a telecommunication system which provide communication through conversation.

  15. Pulse
    is a unit of conversation duration through telephone connection.

  16. Telephone Subscriber
    is any person or institution who subscriber telephone services. If a person or an institution who subscribes two telephone line is considered as two subscriber.

  17. Paid Connection Telephone
    is a telephone line utilized by subscriber which has to be paid based on phone used.

  18. Official Connection Telephone
    is a telephone line utilized for company operation itself and public service operation such as public payphone and telecommunication shop.

  19. Communication
    is process of Communications refers to the process of conveying meaningful symbols from one person to another.

  20. Post
    refers to services for delivering and receiving mails, letter, money, parcel, and other post related services and conducted by particular institutions as assigned by Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication.

  21. Post Office
    is a technical operation unit of State Owned Post Company (PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia) which providing all post and giro related services.

  22. Auxillary Post Office
    is an operation unit of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia, located in urban areas and accountable to Post and Giro Office at municipality for its operations, revenue and expenditure.

  23. Sub Post Office
    is an operation unit of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia, located in rural areas and accountable to the Post and Giro Office for its operations, revenue and expenditure.

  24. Giro Center
    is an operation unit of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia as a central for administration of giro post account in particular areas. CGE also provide postal giro counters.

  25. Integrated Giro Center
    an operation unit of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia for administration of giro post account in particular areas, but incorporated within the post office, because it has not fulfill the requirments to operate independently, and supervised by the head of post office.

  26. Specific Giro Center
    an operation unit of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia for administration of giro post account in particular areas, but only ideal with state income or taxes; incorporated within the post office, which located within the same town with Treasury and Cash Office, which does not has a central giro exchange.

  27. Rural Post Office (Kantor Pos Desa)
    is a postal agency of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia located within the capital city of any sub-district which do not have post office; located within the office of the sub-district government or any other place within the sub-district; carry out by particular officers from sub-district government.

  28. Mail Processing Center
    is an operation unit that particularly conducting one activities of managing and delivering letters post.

  29. Extention Counter
    is a pigeon hole post facilities provided by PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia and located outside the post office.

  30. Postal Stationary Kiosk
    is kiosk facilities which assigned to sell stamps, postage, envelopes, and other related items and located in surrounding area of the post office.

  31. Urban Mobile Servise is four whel motor vehicle which provide postal services within a particular city and regularly visit some areas in the city.

  32. Rural Post Office
    is two wheel motor vehicle which provide postal services and regularly move from one village to another.

  33. Mobile Postal Marketing (Pos Sarling)
    is two wheel motor vehicle which provide postal services and regularly move from door to door.

  34. Postal House
    is a unit of postal service facility located at transmigration areas managed by one officer assigned by Chief of Regional Transmigration Department, and has given training about post services by PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia.

  35. Rural Postal Agent
    is an independent unit of postal service, located in a particular city/town and operate on behalf of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia, based on particular agreement.

  36. Postal Stationary Depot
    in independent kiosk facilities which allowed by PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia to sell stamps, postage. Envelopes, and other related items in nominal prices.

  37. One Stop Shopping Postal Service
    is postal service facilities that also provide non post related services. The director is one of officer from PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia or independent person based on work agreement. It can be located either within the post office or any ather places.

  38. Postal Kiosk
    is postal service facilities provided by the group of prosperous family.

  39. Rural Postal Service (Pos Desa)
    is a postal agency of PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia located in the village which do not have post office; located within the office of the village government or any other place witihn the village; carry out by partiular officers from the village government.

  40. School Postal Service
    is postal service facilities located at schools to provide post related services to the teachers and students; operated by someone who assigned by the head of school as a part of activities of organization within the school and under supervision of head of post office, the group of prosperous family.

  41. Mail Box
    is a particular box provided by PT. (Persero) Pos Indonesia, installed at the wall of post office or other places for rent by public as their address for their letter. Each mailbox has their own number.

  42. Street Mail Box
    is letter box belonged to PT. (Pesero) Pos Indonesia provided for putting the letter that wanted to be sent.

  43. Specific Postal Mail Box (Business)
    is locked box or container provided for public who wish to have their mail to be put on it. It also can be used to post their mail.

  44. Specific Postal Mail Box (House)
    are arranged locked letter boxes placed at the public places to receive the letter.

  45. Letter
    is written message, either by handed or printed, which are sent in sealed envelope.

  46. Letter Post
    is the collective name for letter, aerogram, postcard, printed item, newspaper and small parcel.

  47. Postal Parcel
    is parcel which contain goods in particular shapes and size.

  48. Money Order
    is the simplest and most economic means used to send money, either domestic or overseas, through the post.

  49. Item
    is letter post or parcel post unit

  50. Postal Item
    is the collective term used for letter post and/or parcel post, which is contained ai a bag or other container.

  51. Giro
    is a giro payment service or transferring of funds from one giro post account to another.

  52. Postal Cheque
    is facility for transferring of fund for payment purpose by cheque through the post.

  53. Printed Matter
    is printed scripts or pictures on the paper or any other media that ussually used at printing machines, through mechanical or photographic process.

  54. Express Mail Service (EMS)
    refers to the service provided for sending the letters by express (including documents) to overseas destinations by air transport. Compensation guarantee for any delay or loss is provided.

  55. Intercity Express Mail
    is the service provided for sending the letters by express (including documents) to domestic destinations by air or land transport. Compensation guarantee for any delay or loss is provided.

  56. Overnight Delivery Service
    is the service provided for sending the letters by express (including documents), via air or land transport, to 222 cities in Indonesia. The sender receives proof of postage, proof of receipt and compensaton guarantee for any delay or loss.

  57. City Courier
    is the service provided for sending the letters (including documents) within a city accompanied by compensation guarantee for any delay or loss.

  58. Electronic Letter
    is the service provided for sending the letters (including documents) through electronic media

COVERAGE

Communication covers activities post and telecommunication. Telecommunication statistics which are presented/confined on fixed telephone from State Owned Telecommunication Company i.e. telephone, telex, facsimile etc. Post statistics which are presented only cover State Owned Post Company. Both post and telecommunication activities hold by branch offices through out Indonesia.


SOURCE OF DATA

Telecommunication statistics which are presented based on secondary data from State Owned Telecommunication Company (PT. TELKOM) head office in Bandung, which have been collected by PT. TELKOM head quarter from all its branch offices.
Mean while post statistics which are presented based on secondary data from State Owned Post Company.


DATA COLLECTION

Data on post and telecommunication are collected by head quarter in bandung from its branch offices through out Indonesia.
